I'm taking a break from lj. I just don't like it here anymore and I'm way too busy to deal with it. I will still read some of my favorite journals, and maybe even comment...but I'm off to go journal somewhere else for a bit.

Microbrew

(66% dark & bitter, 33% working class, 33% genuine)

Microbrews, though obscure, are pretty tasty things, and they continually win beer contests. I, personally, have a hard time getting past the hype and the slight air of pretention that surrounds any discussion of "hoppiness," "5-star scales," and the like. But their non-working-classness notwithstanding, Microbrew is one of the best categories on this test: dignified, intelligent, rare.

Personality-wise, you have refined tastes (after all, mircobrews are usually kind of expensive), but you know how to savor what you get. Your personality isn't exactly light and bubbly, but very you're well-liked by your close circle of friends. Your sense of humor is most likely on the dark side, but that's just another way to say sophisticated, right? Just remember to act like a Pabst every once in a while, and you'll be perfect.

Cheers!!!

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 35% on dark

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 4% on workingclass

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 8% on genuine

The weather today is going to be lovely and my darling boy is buying me booze with dinner tonight. I just hope that work doesn't prevent me from making it there on time.

Sweater update-

The front is misshapen, but done. The yarn is too fluffy to see any of the detailing though, Believe it or not, but I am scared of the finishing the back. I'm not very good at increases. Hell, I don't even know how to increase. What a learning experience this has been.

I'm hoping to get to work today and find that little elves came during the night to finish my work for me. Little elves that wear blue hats and enjoy Pixie Stix. Man, that would be awesome.

Oh, and I'm thinking of taking a break from this journal. I haven't been motivated. Any thoughts?

So oddly emotional today. I wonder if it is the weather...

Today has also been marked by a lot of random comments about llamas. Don't ask....

Last night I found myself rather unwilling to watch the Mel Brooks DVD that has been sitting on my coffee table for serveral days now. As a result, I resigned myself to the potential horror that is primetime television.

Since I was such a junkie last year, I started with American Idol. *sigh* It really does get worse and worse doesn't it? I was sooo bored that I considered drowning myself in the bowl of soapy water I was using to felt my beads. Anything to make the hurting stop... Hmmm, I wonder why it didn't occur to me to just change the channel? Anyway, no one was very interesting and that Ace Young guy puts me into the same blinding rage that Costantine did.

Next up was House. I actually do like this show. In fact, I find it more watchable than a lot of other things on TV right now. My only worry is, how long can I stand the snark and suspense before I get tired of that too. I actually don't find the whole "maybe it's lupus" or "maybe it's canadian snout fever" part all that interesting. In fact, I think the best parts are the final reveal (so sometimes I ignore the bits that lead up to it) and the whole House/Wilson odd couple thing. Sadly, we know that can't go on forever either. I suppose I need to start paying more attention to the human drama. But when your sister fianlly drags herself away from myspace long enough to check your email, it gets a bit hard to listen to the ruggedly handsome, blue-eyed TV doctor.

Final score - American Idol 4.5
House 8.25

I still haven't finished that silly paper. Worst of all, I need to prepare a 5 minute oral presentation to do tonight. I'm having major regrets about taking this class. I don't seem to have the will or energy for it. Oh well, it's too late now. I don't think I could bare the embarassment of wussing out. I think I might just have to get used to the idea that I might not get an A this go round. I had such lofty ideas about trying to find a part of me, or at least something I could be good at through this class. Guess my will isn't as strong as I hoped it would be. Either that, or work is just too much.

It's official, I am a freebie whore.  I spend way too much of my online time searching the internet for ways to make a quick buck.  You might think that my efforts are silly, but I tell you this...it is much better than stealing toilet paper from public bathrooms or trying to squeeze out fifty of those little ketchup packets to fill up your empty bottle.  Not that I have done any of these things....yet....  The more I run around trying to save or make a buck, I realize just how much I am playing into that silly stereo-type that all Italian Americans like to stash all their money under their mattress for a rainy day and then when the rain comes, we get all wet because we still refuse to touch it.  Rain is bad, but who knows when a typhoon may hit I suppose.

My recent choice not to go to Vegas has been both great and terrible.  Great that I can now focus on my future trip to Disney World and afford a nicer hotel-

Port Orleans Riverside

But also sad that I'm going to miss out on a lot of fun.  I suppose you can't have everything and I will just have to make up for it at Disney.  Besides, it will be nice to have the boy with me and not feel like a 7th wheel.  I am going to push for that trip to Niagra though.  I've always wanted to see the falls.

Sweater update-

Right upper panel is complete and I'm about 5 inches into the bottom section.  I just hope that adding two inches will be enough to make the sweater long enough and not too cropped.  I guess time will tell.

Oh, and is anyone interested in me posting any good money making/freebies I find?  There was a time I was making an extra $30 a month and $125 in amazon creadits back in my heyday.  Let me know.

After some math and a bunch od advice from The Letter L, I have now started my sweater. I must admit to a few false starts, but I have completed the upper left front panel and have started the right one. I'm a bit sad as I knit though because I worry that the bulky-ness of this baby is going to make me look like a nasty round and fuzzy plum. I am doing my best to not worry too much about this, because as long as it fits I think I will be rather pleased. I must admit that choosing such a fluffy yarn for my first project that requires shaping was not the best idea I've ever had. Best not to worry about that now though. It's kinda too late.

On to happier news then? Exellent. This week I have no class, and as a result I am thinking of taking a couple days off at the end of the week for Spring Cleaning and writing my Oral History Project...as well as part 2 of my definition of what it means to be an Italian-American. I've put belly-dancing on a bit of a hold until the summer so that can concentrate on surviving the rest of the semester. Next week is the beginning of what my boss calls the "hard time" of the year for me, so she was the one who actually suggested the time off. Oh yes, and I cannot forget about that craft swap I still need to do. Phew! Good thing I have that decopauge date coming up.

Other super happy news is that I'm expecting my LUSH package to arrive any day now. *crosses her fingers* I hope I scored some nice free stuff in addition to the Sex Bomb bath bomb my co-worker found a coupon for. Their stuff might be pricey, but they provide some rather immediate results (B, get your mind out of the gutter).

Oh, and for those who drool over the PBS "House" series....check out this little gem:

So I started knitting "Grace" last night and after being a good girl and making my swatch, I discovered that I cannot seem to get gauge if my life depended on it. As a result, I am getting an extra inch in width for every 4 inches I knit. My sister thought this was fine because I could just knit the smallest size and hope for the best... Hmmm, this does indeed concern me. While the width for the back seems okay, I am actually worried that the front will be too big and leave me looking like one of those purple furry monsters you see on Sesame Street. Worst of all, I am really lazy...so over and over I have thought to myself: why not just try to make the front work? There is barely any shaping...then you can just improvise a back piece to match. No one needs to know...the yarn is forgiving...

Grr, I do always have the option to do math and adjust the pattern. It knits pretty fast and I do have time this weekend to frog what I did last night. I think I will read some stuff and then decide. As always, feedback is welcome..

This weekend ending up being pretty nice. With the cancelation of other plans, The Letter L and I ended up going for brunch together on Sunday. I've been dying to do that for so long, and though my arteries still hurt from my "Irish Fry" meal...it was really fun. Plus, well, I think we are both pretty funny so there was much laughing and comments like-

"Four eggs? I mean really...who can eat four eggs and SURVIVE?"

"Oh. Look, this would make a lovely gift...for someone." - follow with a non-commital shrug

"I'm not a bear!" - Classics never die

"Do you think vampires would like blood sausage? I do."

Earlier in the weekend, our St. Paddy's Day party had been rescheduled due to illness. No worries because I got to play We [heart] Katamari and go to bellydancing. Funny how much I suck at both but don't seem to mind. This week is already starting to fill up pretty fast, much to my shock and horror. Saturday is trivia night, to be followed by The Letter L's birthday extravaganza. Don't tell her, but we are hoping that space monkeys might be involved. We're not sure how yet, but there's hope.

Oh yes, and I even got to see a bit of Irish Step-dancing on Friday and got a call from my Super Irish Friend, D. That girl slays me, and not in the vampire-like way.

V's Journal - Your source for the very latest in sock-y news

Last night marks the completion of sock number two. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the shape, but I will admit that there are quite a few mistakes. Also, I can' seem to graft if my life depended on it. This is going to be a bit if a problem as I have ordered 7 skeins of fake mohair in order to make that Grace sweater. This leaves me with two options. A) a trip to the yarn store for a lesson B) making sad puppy eyes at The Letter L until she teaches me

I choose option B.  Commence with the eyes...

In other news, I finally heard from that certain friend I was pouting over.  He said he is going to have to spend the rest of his life making up for the fact that he didn't call/write or whatever on my B-day.  To be honest, I couldn't be mad at him and I am quite pleased that he isn't angry with me or anything.  We talked for a bit and I shared the story about how my mother got attacked by a golf ball while lounging by the pool in Florida.  Serves her right for not wearing sunblock.  Then I went to my NIA class (we were eagles last night.  WTF?), and spent the rest of the night knitting.

I have a Jim Henson themed craft swap coming up on craftster.  If anyone could provide me with any ideas on what to make, I would be most grateful.  Don;t make me pull out more of those puppy pictures.

I was even a good girl and started my other sock right away. My next plan is to do some crafting for the next craft swap I'm participating in before trying out "Grace." I was able to find a knit-along on it, so I plan to read all that before taking it on. I also want to try to find a decent replacement yarn because I am super cheap. After that, I think I want to do a knit-along myself. I think that having other people to motivate me might be helpful with the longer projects.

Tonight I am helping a friend with her knitting. Apparently it's been giving her back pain (huh?). Yeah, I think I need to see what she's doing for myself.

Oh, and thanks for the lovely feedback my ladies. I plan on posting more crafting updates and such as I go along.

Sock number one is complete! I even put in on last night and it fits. I think I should have made it a bit bigger because my feet are kinda fat and it stretches the yarn a bit, causing those gap/holes things, but overall I am quite pleased. I don't think I got the whole grafting thing down, but I can always try again on the next sock. PS - knitpicks.com is having a sock yarn sale. Hold me back people, hold me back.

As I casted on the stiches for the other sock, I realized something...I need a new project to try after I finish the sock. Any suggestions anyone? A top of some sort? A bag? More (and higher up the leg) socks?

Here are some ideas:

sock progress report #2. star date 3-10-2006

After braving the rather unruly cotton jungle, I soon found myself at the end of the line (or should I say the tube part of the sock, right above the ankle). There was no where left to turn, except of course the heel. I was a bit concerned, as I have never seen or experienced anything like this in all my years of exploring the wild knitting frontier, but after much research (and a lot of do overs) I have finally turned a heel! It's by no means perfect, but I am quite happy to report dear sir or madam, that I know have a long something with another long something coming out of the side of it. Thank the good lord for blocking.

I hope to post a picture of my specimen when it is complete. It might be horribly deformed, but I love it. The sky outside is cloudy and icky, but the sun shines eternal on my sock!
